Recycle Your Jack O’ Lantern

Don’t trash your pumpkins! Tri-Cities customers can recycle carved or uncarved pumpkins in their mixed organics and food scraps carts. Don’t throw away your old carpets. You can recycle them!

Quick Link: Learn more about the Carpet Recovery program

Did you know you can recycle old carpets and padding? Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) has set up over 140 carpet recycling drop-off locations throughout the state, making it easy, cost-effective, and convenient for everyone to participate. Salinas Valley Recycles offers free carpet and pad recycling at their Madison Lane Recycling Center. Click here to learn more about this program.

Changes to California’s CRV Recycling Program

Beginning January 1, 2024, the State of California added glass wine and liquor bottles, wine and liquor pouches, boxes and cartons (bag-in-box), and large plastic juice containers to the CRV (California Redemption Value) program. This means a CRV deposit will be added to more of your purchases, and waste haulers and recyclers at beverage container recycling centers will accept more items. Some of these new items require special handling before you place them in your blue mixed recycling cart. Click here to visit our All About Recycling page to learn more about this expanded recycling program.

What Goes Where?

If you find trying to decide which items are recyclable and which items should go in the trash cart or dumpster confusing, you are not alone. Use the What Goes Where search to quickly answer most questions about where to put items in question. If you love the app, download it on your smartphone or device for quick information on the go.

Edible Food Recovery

Why waste food when you can share it? California State Law SB 1383 requires food businesses, grocery stores, restaurants, and hospitality venues of a certain size to make plans to donate still-edible food that will not be sold or consumed. Cities and agencies within Monterey County have been working hard to make this process as easy as downloading an app to put the word out to non-profit feeding organizations. For more information on how the FREE CareIt app works, click here to visit our partners at Salinas Valley Recycles.

How to Recycle Right

Tri-Cities Disposal & Recycling has partnered with our friends at Salinas Valley Recycles to create this video about “How to Recycle at Work.” The same rules and techniques for recycling at work apply at home. Remember, recycling only works if the materials are free of contamination. That means everything in your mixed recycling should be EMPTY, CLEAN, DRY, and LOOSE (no bags). Click on the video link below to learn more about recycling in the Salinas Valley.

New! Multi-family Organics Recycling is Here!

Qualified multi-family (apartment) complexes must comply with state organics recycling laws (yard waste and food scraps). Contact us at 888-678-6798 to determine if your complex is required to participate in this program. Our team is ready to help you with an assortment of resources to help you establish a successful program.

Bag Your Trash!

Help our drivers keep your neighborhood clean on collection day! All trash placed in the trash carts and dumpsters must be bagged. Unbagged trash flies out of carts and dumpsters and is carried by the wind when the garbage truck collects them. Please be considerate of your neighbors and the environment and prevent this type of litter. Do not bag any items in your blue mixed recycling cart (Exception: Shredded paper can be placed in a clear plastic or paper grocery bag).
